Meals Continue! You Can Help!

Dear Community,

As we continue to walk together through uncertain times, MCA seeks to find ways that we can provide normalcy to the youth we serve while keeping students, families, volunteers & staff healthy and safe.

Before the outbreak, we offered local youth snacks after school each day, dinners through our Meal Train 3 days a week and always had a bin near the front door for take home food. While our teen center is now temporarily closed, we are happy to report that we’ve been able to maintain this vital food support in new ways.

Now, we are offering meals & groceries to go 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) from 4-5pm in the parking lot of the Bath Skatepark. We set up in a way that maintains the recommended 6′ physical distancing. Students point to the items they need most, we bag them up and off they go. This also provides us with the ability to check in with some of our most at-risk students. Are they doing okay? How is online schoolwork going? Is there anything Mom or Dad need?

With the help of amazing volunteers, we are also able to deliver to RSU1 families who do not have transportation and live too far to walk.

Local restaurants like Centre Street Bakery, Midcoast Pizza & More, Mae’s Cafe & Bakery provide freshly baked breads & treats, salads, fruit and more. The Bath Area Backpack Program continues to be the foundation of our ability to meet the needs of students with non-perishable foods and produce from Good Shepherd Food Bank.

We’ve added a table for toiletries provided by the Bath Elks Lodge #934 and put out plenty of pens, pencils, glue sticks, notebooks and paper. Yesterday, a local student gave us a note thanking MCA for helping her “all year round”, with “math last summer” and now “food for her family”. If there’s anything we hope she remembers of this time, it’s how much she is loved and cared for by her community.

None of us know how long this will last, but there is one thing we do know – that we will make it through this – one day at a time, supporting one another.

If you’d like to make a contribution to help continue this vital work, there are lots of ways to do this.
